Since childhood Ben has been interested in natural history and has shown skills in observation. He spent his early childhood in West Africa so was surrounded by tropical plants and birds.Â
From the time that he was given a camera he enjoyed capturing aspects of landscapes and animal life as well as experimenting with different shots. At school he studied Art, Photography and Sculpture for A level and then went on to do a Foundation Degree in Action Photography at Truro College, Cornwall.Â
With his formative years in a country where many people were in poverty Ben has developed a desire to document social injustice. He had the opportunity to travel to Uganda where he saw at first hand the rehabilitation work amongst the child soldiers from the Lord’s Resistance Army. This had a profound effect on him. He was also able to travel to the Masai Mara to photograph the wild life and meet Masai and hear about their lives and difficulties. These experiences have given him a passion for social and conflict photography.
Since then Ben has also travelled to Thailand to work with HIV affected children as well as document with photographs the beauty and the tragedy of that country.Â
Ben is now building a portfolio of photographs – sport, studio work, social documentary and wildlife. In them you will see both his artistic flair and his attention to detail. He is keen to develop his style and is available for commissions.
